Oh what a fun trip we just had! We caught a ferry (aka Water Taxi) to an island called Caye Caulker. We left on Wednesday morning and got back Friday afternoon.

The only ferry out of Corozal leaves pretty early in the morning, at 7AM. It is at least a 20-30 minute walk from where we are staying (especially with a grumbling 9 year old!), so I asked a car service to pick us up at 6:30AM since it is only a 5 minute car ride. So we're out the door... and 6:35 rolls around, then 6:40... and I am freaking out because they are supposed to stop selling tickets for the day at 6:50. Aieee!! Luckily, our next door neighbors are some early birds and were just hanging out having their coffee. They gave us a ride to the dock and we made it in time to buy the tickets. WHEW, crisis avoided! But that was the most stressful part of the trip! Everything else went so smoothly.

The first leg of water taxi trip took about 2 hours as we traveled from Corozal to San Pedro (with a very quick stop-off in a neighboring town called Sarteneja). San Pedro is a bustling little peninsula. Town is around 30 miles long, I'm told. It definitely seemed overcrowded in our opinion. But the people we did speak with were nice and friendly. Just seemed like a lot of traffic.

The second leg of this water taxi journey had us leaving San Pedro at about 11:30AM for a quick 30-minute trip to the island of Caye (pronounced like key) Caulker. Now this place was definitely more our style! Very laid back, low-key and convenient place to be. The whole populated part of the 2-part islands is only about 3.5 miles long. Most people get where they are going via golf kart or bicycle, if they don't just walk. There are a lot more tourists and some awesome sandy beaches. This is the place to be for snorkeling, boating and having fun. I think we want to move there. Just hoping we can find a place in the next couple months. *fingers crossed*

There's a crane in there! |
We did a snorkeling tour too. I have been snorkeling before, but it was Nate and Cailey's first time. They totally had a blast! We even got to swim with sharks and sting rays! It was kinda terrifying, I'm not gonna lie. But definitely fun!

We also rented a car today. We'll have it for 10 days. So where will the next adventure take us?? Tune in next time to find out!
